‘Pet Aware’ returns to Taunton garden centre
A GARDEN centre in Somerset has from January 2009 decided to continue running
its free ‘Pet Aware’ days throughout 2009 due to public demand.
Staff at the Pet, Aquatic and Reptile Department at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet
Centre in Monkton Heathfield will host the events, which include Handle a Pet
sessions, where visitors to the garden centre are able to find out all about
caring for pets.
Liz Woodward, Manager of the Pet, Aquatic and Reptile Department, explained: “We
held a trial event in December because we wanted to provide a service to members
of the public who wanted to come along and learn about what actually goes into
looking after an animal before they decide to buy one.
“It is important to get all of the necessary information about a pet
before you invest time and money into it. Therefore, we thought that we would
help people decide if they really can incorporate an animal into their lives
by bringing in our own pets and sharing our experiences.
“We had some great feedback from people that came along on the day we
held in December and lots of customers have asked about more events like this.
The sessions were so successful we have decided to carry them on into 2009.”
The Pet Aware events, including the Handle a Pet sessions at the Pet, Aquatic
and Reptile Department at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre will run from 11am
until 4pm on Saturday, January 24, Saturday, February 21 and Saturday, March
21, 2009.
Liz added: “If anyone is thinking they would quite like to get a pet
then this is the perfect opportunity to get some advice before going out and
buying one. All of the staff at the Pet, Aquatic and Reptile Department have
pets at home so we have first hand experience in caring for all sorts of animals.
“It will not just be rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters who will be available
to handle during the Pet Aware sessions, there will also be an assortment of
other pets including snakes, spiders and lizards, to name but a few.”
