Battersea Dogs and Cats Home

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is Britain’s most famous home for rescued dogs and cats. It has been better known in the past purely as a dog rescue centre. It does, however, rescue, reunite, re-home and rehabilitates both dogs and cats to the tune of over 11,000 every year. The Home was founded in the 1860s and by the end of 2004 they had taken in over 3 million dogs and cats.

At any given time there are usually around 400 dogs and 100 cats at the Home. However, at their busiest times, this can rise to 500 dogs and 150 cats with the average stay being 24 days for a dog and 21 days for a cat.

The cost to care for each dog or cat, at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, is around £900, no matter how long or how short their stay. The Home is a registered charity funded solely on the generosity of its supporters through fundraising, donations and legacies.

They now have two other sites in the country: Battersea Dogs Home Brands Hatch and Battersea Dogs Home Old Windsor. Again these are now also rebranded as Battersea Dogs and Cats Homes.
