Findafurry - Re-homing Small Animals

Started back in 2006, after seeing yet another heartbreaking rescue after
inexperienced people had bought a small animal on impulse Findafurry is still
putting people in touch.
Underpinned by an ethical code, Findafurry
puts people looking for pets directly in touch with those who have small animals
needing new homes - whether they are planned, accidental litters, rescues or
their owners just can't look after them any more. www.findafurry.co.uk is a not-for-profit
free website dedicated to finding new homes for small pets across the UK.
Back in 2006, after seeing yet another heartbreaking rescue after inexperienced
people had bought a small animal on impulse, Findafurry's founders realised that
an easy, central and accessible alternative place to find and re-home small animals
could really make a difference to animal welfare in the UK. There are sites out
there advertising rescues, there are sites advertising purpose bred animals and
appeals from people desperate to find new homes for their animals, but nothing
brings all small animals together in an ethical way. So with experience in IT
and Marketing and armed with books on web design and a lot of determination,
Findafurry was born.
Several years on and the site has just re-launched. It now has separate accounts
for rescue centres and individuals to meet their different needs and has volunteers
in local areas across the country helping to spread the word (although more help
is always welcome!). Every day the number of animals needing new homes being
advertised on the site increases and now Findafurry even has a ‘not for
profit organisation’ page on Facebook where people can become an official
fan!
Findafurry continues to develop and improve – the team are currently working
on a non-medical 'help in an emergency' facility to make sure people always have
somewhere to turn for help in a hurry – especially as not all rescues are
able to take small animals. Rescues are encouraged to become members of Findafurry
now so they can take part in the service as soon as it is launched.
Findafurry is a simple idea, but needs supporters to help spread the word. Just
telling other people, linking to the site or putting up a card in a local shop
might help to find an animal a new home. It might stop someone buying an animal
on impulse. It will tell people there is an alternative way. It’s a very
easy way to make a difference.
For more information please visit the site - www.findafurry.co.uk - where you
can find sections on rats, mice, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs.
It also has an ‘other small furry’ section for animals who do not
yet have their own area of the site.
On the ‘spread the word’ page
are resources to help you to tell more people about Findafurry – including
a form to request cards to display in local areas. For information about the
site, find out how to volunteer, or if you have any feedback and ideas for the
site contact team(at)findafurry.co.uk or become a fan on Facebook!
