The People and Dogs Society (PADS) 2008  Amateur Pet Photographer Competition

The People And Dogs Society (PADS) is holding a competition to find the UK’s best amateur pet photographer.

So if you like ‘snapping dogs’ – or other pets - this is the competition for you.

PADS is a registered charity which helps dogs by supporting and advising their owners. PADS’ best known service is the Canine Advice Life Line, a telephone and email advice line for anyone with dog related problems, but they also offer a wide range of other informational and advisory services. All PADS services are all paid for by fundraising events such as this Pet Photo Competition.

"PADS is run by a committee of volunteers based in Yorkshire," explained competition organiser Ann Toward. “But because the Pet Photo Competition is a postal event, it’s a great way for people all over the UK get involved – and to support PADS.”
“Although PADS helps dogs and their owners, we wanted to open the Photo Competition up to those who liked other animals as well,” said Ann. “So we’ve included classes for all kinds of pet.”

There are prizes available in every class, and the Pet Photo Competition is sponsored by Sally Mitchell Art, so the ‘Best In Show’ winner can look forward to choosing a limited edition print or other artwork from their website. The competition will be judged by Alison Smith (Editor: Our Dogs).

Pet Photo entries will be accepted up 12th March 2009, but the Competition is being launched now to give entrants plenty of time to take a winning shot.

Ann is hoping that the Pet Photo Competition will also draw attention to the valuable work done by PADS with dogs and their owners, and attract more supporters. PADS does not employ any staff; all its services are offered and its funds are raised by a band of dedicated volunteers.

“We can only continue our work with the help of our supporters and volunteers,” said Debbie Waller, Hon Chairman of the charity. “And we would be really pleased to hear from anyone willing to join them by, as well as those who would like to enter this pet photo competition".

Information about the Pet Photo Competition, and PADS other activities, is available from www.padsonline.org or from Ann Toward on 01924 386594.
